SCAMMERS tricked a homeowner into a paving job that left his home in worse shape than before – now he has to pay double.

Canadian resident Steve Park realized a handshake no longer meant anything after the contractor left him with a huge mess.

Steve Park, a homeowner living in the town of Marcham, Ontario, needed his driveway repaved earlier in May.

He contacted a reputable contractor company, who quoted him $7,000 for the job.

However, the price felt a little steep for Park, so he left the offer on the table and looked for other options.

Later on, a representative from a different company knocked on his door and told him they could repave his driveway for half the cost – $3,500.

Park was sold and shook hands with the representative, and within a few days, the crew showed up to do the work.

All was well until one of the crew members told Park there was paving over the water main in his driveway, and they needed to tear up the concrete.

Reluctantly, Park agreed to let them demolish the driveway, but now he has a driveway worse off than the one he had before.

After tearing the concrete up, the crew quickly repaved it, leaving behind a stack of rubble in his front yard and bumps all over.

"You can see where they ripped it up and the patches because when they couldn't find the watermain they didn't know where it was so they were just guessing," the furious homeowner told Toronto CTV News.

Park feels the company had a full intention of doing a poor job, and believes he was scammed.

"I think I was played by them," he said.

"They knew what to say and how to say it. A handshake used to mean something, but now it does not seem to anymore."

Due to their inferior work, Park told the outlet that his driveway now has high and low points, resulting in pools of water when it rains.

There are also splatters of asphalt all over the stonework.

The company also refuses to deal with the pile of shattered asphalt, despite representatives telling him they would stop by and cart it away.

His efforts to contact them were fruitless.

"I contacted them with messages, calls and they haven't got back to me so I guess I'm stuck cleaning up this mess," he said.

Reporters with the outlet attempted to contact the company on Park's behalf, though they were hung up on as soon as they were discovered to be the media.

Their email requests for comment were never answered, either.

Now, Park has to pay another company to do the job, which will likely cost him more than he would have paid if he'd stuck with the original company.

"You pay more, but you've always got coverage and someone you can contact if there is a problem," he said.
