Noah Wyle and Sara Wyle are grieving a sudden loss.

The Pitt star, 55, and his wife, 47, revealed in a joint Instagram post early on Monday, Oct. 19, that one of their dogs recently died, a loss neither of them saw coming.

“Our sweet girl left us today,” the couple wrote in the caption. “We are devastated. It was unexpected.”

The pair paid tribute to their pup with a tender nickname, describing her as “our beautiful California Brown Bear” and adding, “there is/was no one like her.” They signed off with a simple message for anyone sharing their home with a pet: “Hug your fur babies tight.”

The couple, who first met in 2010 and married in June 2014, also own goats, chickens, and several rescue canines on their sprawling ranch in California’s Santa Ynez Valley.

In October 2023, Sara shared another dog loss, writing on Instagram at the time, “Our sweet girl left us today💙she was truly the greatest, sweetest, funniest dog ever and we can’t even fathom a world without her in it.”

The couple welcomed their daughter Frances Harper in June 2015, and she has also shown a love for animals over the years through her mother’s Instagram page. Noah also shares two children, Auden and Owen, with his ex-wife, Tracy Warbin.

Animals have long been central to Noah’s life away from Hollywood. The actor has spent years living on his ranch, where he’s earned a reputation for taking in rescue animals.

“We’re not acquiring as many animals as we used to, but if I hear a good hard-luck case or a good sob story about an animal in need, I’m still a soft touch, and everybody knows it,” he told Cowboys & Indians in 2019.

At the time, the former ER star said the family’s ranch was home to pigs, chickens, horses, “lots of dogs and cats,” and a rescue steer named Calvin, rehabilitated by his sister, a veterinarian. “So there’s a menagerie — a lot of mouths to feed,” he said. “I think the burden was being named Noah.”

Noah has credited actor and activist James Cromwell with inspiring his animal advocacy.

“I had this big piece of property … so I was taking all these animals that were being rescued off of highways,” he recalled in a July 2025 Living Well cover story, adding that he’d had “cows and chickens and pigs and emus … And I still have a few.”
