(Charlie Riedel/Associated Press) Joseph Duarte · Houston Chronicle Wed, November 4, 2026 at 1:06 AM UTC About Our Ads Advertisement Advertisement Advertisement University of Houston tight end Patrick Overmyer said "something wasn't right" on the play that knocked him out of the game against Utah.
Overmyer was hurt on the Cougars' opening drive and did not return in the 21-13 loss to then-No. 10 Utah .
Overmyer was upended by defensive back Elijah Davis on a pass that gained no yards. He struck the back of his helmet on the turf and was slow to get up.
UH said Overmyer suffered an upper-body injury.
"Right away, when I tried to get up, I kind of lost coordination in my legs and my head was spinning and all that type of stuff," Overmyer said after Tuesday's practice. "I knew something wasn't right."
Overmyer, who leads the team with seven touchdown catches, sat out the open week and returned to practice Monday as the No. 17 Cougars prepare to host Cincinnati on Saturday.
"I'm feeling good, all back to normal," Overmyer said. "(Open) week came at a perfect time. Good week for me to get healthy. I kind of just chilled a little bit. I'm feeling good."
