Patrick Mahomes Sr.has been arrested after an alleged probation violation, according to multiple reports.

On Tuesday, Feb. 3, the 55-year-old father of NFL starPatrick Mahomes, 30, was booked into the Smith County Jail in Texas for allegedly consuming alcohol, Smith County District Attorney Jacob Putman toldKLTV.

Mahomes Sr.'s alcohol ankle monitor allegedly delivered a high reading on Jan. 1. He then took two urine test analyses, one on Jan. 5 and another on Jan. 9. They both allegedly came back negative at the time,TMZreported, citing court documents.

A motion has been filed to end the violation, and Mahomes Sr. can challenge the allegations, according toCBS 19.

His probation stems from his thirdDWI arrestin February 2024. At the time, his blood alcohol content was 0.23 when an officer pulled him over in Tyler, Texas.

He was arrested just eight days before his son and theKansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ersin the Super Bowl that year.

The following August, the former professional baseball playerpleaded guilty to the driving while intoxicatedcharge and agreed to five years of probation and one year of "intense supervision," local news stationKETKreported at the time.

If found guilty of violating his parole, Mahomes Sr. could face a 10-year prison sentence, according toCBS 19.

A hearing date has not been set for Mahomes Sr., per theKansas City Star.

Since his father's third DWI, the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback hasspoken outabout the incident.

"It was during that Super Bowl. It became a story, and so, I had to answer questions about it," Mahomes recalled during an August 2025 episode of ESPN's original seriesChiefs Kingdom.

"I think just knowing that it hurt me woke him up to know that like, you can't keep doing the same things," thefather of threeadded.

Mahomes Sr. also weighed in, saying, "For him to have to answer questions about me was probably the most embarrassing thing I've ever been through in my life. I called him right after and I told him, I said, 'I'm sorry that it's taking away from your time and taking away from your focus.'"

"As soon as he came out, he's had a ball in his hand," he said of his son. "I don't know if he thought he was going to be a professional athlete, but he always lived his life like he was going to be one."

Before his 2009 retirement, the former MLB player was a pitcher from 1992 to 2003. He played for the Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates and earned himself a spot in theSioux Falls Canaries Hall of Fame.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — In just his fifth collegiate game, freshman Alijah Arenas scored a career-high 29 points and Kam Woods scored 18 points and USC held off Indiana 81-75 on Tuesday night in a frenzied finish.

Arenas, who entered with 30 points scored this season, shot 9 of 23 — including 3 of 9 from 3-point range — and made 8 of 9 foul shots. Ezra Ausar added 12 points for the Trojans USC (17-6, 6-6 Big Ten).

Chad Baker-Mazara, who entered averaging just under 19 points per game, scored just seven in the first half before leaving due to injury.

Lamar Wilkerson was the only Indiana (15-8, 6-6) player in double-digit scoring and finished with 33 points on 55% shooting (11 of 20).

Tayton Conerway made 1 of 2 foul shots with 58 seconds left to get Indiana within 75-69. Off the miss, IU got the offensive rebound, Tucker Devries drew a foul on his layup attempt and promptly made both foul shots. Woods turned it over on USC's following possession, Conerway again converted a layup but missed the and-1 and USC maintained a 75-73 lead with 31 seconds left.

Jordan Marsh made two foul shots to give USC a four-point lead with 24 seconds left. Again, Conerway was on his way to the rim but Ryan Cornish came up with the block from behind.

Arenas made two foul shots with 14 seconds left to seal it.

USC seemed poised to run away with it when Woods buried a 3 with 11:42 left to give the Trojans a 55-41 advantage. The Hoosiers responded with a 14-5 run to get back in it.

Indiana: Hosts Wisconsin on Saturday.

USC: Travels to Penn State on Sunday.

NEW YORK (AP) — Austin Reaves was bored. He would lift weights during the day, but all he could do during games was watch his Los Angeles Lakers from the bench.

"I think all I did for a month and a half was yell at the refs. So that's no fun," Reaves said. "It's better to yell at them on the court."

He finally got back on the floor Tuesday night for the first time since Christmas, helping theLakers beat the Brooklyn Nets 125-109.

Reaves had missed the previous 19 games with a left calf strain. He came off the bench and scored 15 points in 21 minutes. The Lakers had the game well under control by the time he entered late in the first quarter, perhaps getting extra energy knowing that one of their best players was rejoining a team that has faced frequent absences.

"It was just a boost for all of us, especially at the end of a road trip, to get a guy like that back," LeBron James said. "Obviously his rhythm is a little off but he still made an impact and just happy to have him back."

Reaves was off to a terrific start to the season before he was sidelined. He missed three games with the injury in December, then was in just his second game back when he was hurt again against Houston on Dec. 25.

He came into Tuesday averaging 26.6 points, 6.3 assists and 5.2 rebounds, and coach JJ Redick said before the game the Lakers have missed the guard in every facet of the game.

"He's an All-Star-level player and of course you're going to miss him in a number of ways," Redick said.

Reaves was listed as questionable to play Sunday against the Knicks and wanted to so he could play at Madison Square Garden, but just didn't feel ready. He said he woke up feeling better Tuesday and decided he would join the Lakers in the final game of their eight-game trip.

Redick said the Lakers have had their full complement of players only twice this season, and James said after the loss to the Knicks that Reaves' absence made it difficult to evaluate the team's potential.

"Unfortunately our All-Star 2-guard has been out for a minute and that's a big piece of our team," James said. "So it's kind of hard to see what we can really, truly be."

TOKYO (AP) — Heavy snow battering northern Japan in the last two weeks has been blamed in 35 deaths nationwide so far, including people suffering sudden heart attacks or slipping while shoveling snow, government officials said Wednesday.

As of Wednesday, 15 prefectures have been affected, with the amount of snow piled up in the worst hit areas estimated to have reached 2 meters (6.5 feet).

The biggest number of snow-related fatalities, at 12 people, was reported in Niigata Prefecture, a rice-growing region in northern Japan, including a man in his 50s who was found collapsed on the roof of his home in Uonuma city on Jan. 21.

In Nagaoka city, a man in his 70s was spotted collapsed in front of his home and rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead. He is believed to have fallen from the roof while raking snow, according to the Niigata government.

Japan's chief government spokesperson warned that, although the weather was getting warmer, more danger could lie ahead because snow would start melting, resulting in landslides and slippery surfaces.

"Please do pay close attention to your safety, wearing a helmet or using a lifeline rope, especially when working on clearing snow," Chief Cabinet Secretary Minoru Kihara told reporters.

Various task forces were set up to respond to the heavy snow in Niigata and nearby regions, which began Jan. 20. Seven snow-related deaths have been reported in Akita Prefecture and five in Yamagata Prefecture.

Injuries nationwide numbered 393, including 126 serious injuries, 42 of them in Niigata. Fourteen homes were damaged, three in Niigata and eight in Aomori Prefecture.

The reason behind the heavy snowfall is unclear. But deaths and accidents related to heavy snow are not uncommon in Japan, with 68 deaths reported over the six winter months the previous year, according to the Fire and Disaster Management Agency.

More heavy snow is forecast for the coming weekend.

Sen. Mitch McConnell checked himself into a hospital on Monday, Feb. 2, "after experiencing flu-like symptoms over the weekend," a spokesperson for the Kentucky Republican told USA TODAY.

"His prognosis is positive, and he is grateful for the excellent care he is receiving," the spokesperson confirmed. "He is in regular contact with his staff and looks forward to returning to Senate business."

McConnell, 83, who willnot seek reelectionwhen his term expires in 2026, was unable to participate in votes on the Senate floor this week due to illness. He has been one of the most influential political leaders of his era, joining the U.S. Senate in 1984 and serving as the Republican leader in the chamber from 2007 through 2024 before giving up the position toSen. John Thuneof South Dakota.

Buthealth scareshave followed McConnell, achildhood polio survivor, in recent years. In two separate instances in 2023, he froze up while speaking with reporters, and he's suffered several falls, using a wheelchair at times as a precaution.
