She's been courting her West End co-star Ben Joyce for just over a yr and Amber couldn't be happier.

"Ben and I turned buddies first – none of my previous relationships have started that method," says Amber, 27.

"So I fell in love together with his mind before anything.

"He's the kindest soul. He brightens up any room he walks into – he has that energy. And he puts me before himself every single time, going above and past. He's one in one million."

When former Love Island winner Amber landed a starring position as Lorraine Baines in Back To The Future: The Musical in 2022, she had no concept how much the present was about to vary her life.

Inside weeks of joining the forged, a real-life fairy story began to blossom behind the scenes, and Amber and Ben, 23, finally confessed their emotions for one another throughout a night out at London members' membership Soho Home.

They'd been "joined at the hip" earlier than then, however neither had plucked up the braveness to say out loud how they felt.

"It was a sluggish burner," says Amber.

"He's since advised me that he thought he'd never have an opportunity with me, so he never introduced it up. It was me who mentioned it first. I stated: 'I feel I fancy you!' and he was like: 'Oh my god, me too!'

"I was frightened, because I assumed if this went mistaken we have been committed to working collectively for an additional yr. It might have turned out really bitter. But he's the type of individual I could possibly be round 24/7 and never get bored. It was so pure and like nothing I'd ever skilled before. The chemistry and the strain between us was intense."

Amber's previous relationships have been high-profile – her romance with fellow Love Islander Kem Cetinay ended six months after the present wrapped, then she went on to have a two-year on/off romance with businessman Nick Kyriacou.

However she says she's never experienced the type of contentment and safety she's found with Ben, who played her on-stage son Marty McFly.

"He doesn't make me really feel arduous to love and I've never had that earlier than. Ever. I'm pleased that I've experienced a few of the relationships I've had prior to now, because now all I would like is somebody to be variety to me. Somebody who likes me as a person and needs to be with me.

"We are the male and female versions of each other, however firstly, he's my greatest pal. I feel like the celebs fell in line once I met him – he's every part I would like in a associate and the most effective factor that's ever happened to me."

Amber provides that family and friends have observed a huge difference in her since she met Ben.

He has given her confidence and self-belief and helped settle her anxieties.

"They assume I'm utterly totally different since being with him. I'm lots less on edge. I'm calmer, extra relaxed, not so frantic. I'm simply content material in all elements and Ben has actually balanced that out for me.

"The relationship I've acquired with myself has modified. I could be unapologetically me. I really feel like I really like who I'm now, because he's shown me that it's straightforward."

Although Amber left Again To The Future last summer time to hitch the touring production of Fairly Lady: The Musical – while Ben continues to be starring as Marty – absence has only made the guts develop fonder.

They went from being together 24/7 to hardly seeing one another, however Amber reckons they are stronger for it.

"Our relationship did an entire 180, however that's felt like a brand new chapter and we obtained used to our new regular. We had such a very good basis that we didn't assume twice about it. And what helps is that we reside collectively, so we have now the same base."

Though she's clearly smitten with Ben, pro skater Simon could be very much the other man in her life, and the 2 of them have developed an in depth friendship since ice training started late last yr.

"That is Simon's first yr on Dancing On Ice and I really like that we're experiencing this for the primary time together. He's a incredible instructor. I couldn't imagine doing it with anyone else," she says.

She admits she's been slightly over-awed by the expertise thus far – Amber has a background in dance, but doing it on a pair of skates is a completely totally different matter.

When she first began coaching, she informed mentors Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean that she needed to aim the well-known "headbanger" transfer in& the primary week.

It includes the male companion spinning the female spherical by her ankles, whereas elevating her up and down so her head comes within inches of the ice.&

"Properly, you'd greatest consider that's not occurring," says Amber at present.

"I am nowhere near that yet. I've been shocked at how exhausting it is! Initially, I watched some clips on YouTube – they make it look really easy. But once I obtained on the ice, I used to be like Bambi.

"My mum and pop would never let me go ice skating once I was little, because they thought it was too harmful, so I've only skated a handful of occasions in my life, and that was all earlier than I was 13.

"It's in all probability probably the most difficult factor I've completed in my life."

The new collection marks a return to actuality TV for Amber after an almost seven-year absence.

Since profitable Love Island in 2017, she has been cautious about her job decisions, acutely aware of the need to earn the respect of the theatre business, but in addition because she says she's not made for the tough world of actuality TV.

"I promised myself after Love Island that I was by no means going to do a actuality show again, as I don't have the character for it. There are massive brash personalities on the market who are good for it, but that's just not me.

"What I really like about Dancing On Ice is that it mixes the 2 worlds of TV and talent. It's a chance that gained't come round again and I couldn't turn it down.

"It's coming up to seven years since I've been on telly, so I'd love for individuals to see who I am now. Hopefully I've grown up! I do feel like a totally totally different individual and I would like individuals to see that."

There's little question that Amber has labored her socks off to fulfil her childhood dream of creating it in musical theatre.

Behind the success of the previous few years is a lifetime of dedication and sacrifice, including a transfer from Wales to London on the age of 16 to take up a scholarship on the Urdang Academy.

Amber's older sister Jade can also be a performer and at present touring the UK within the musical Wicked, and each relied on the assistance of bursaries to fund their training.

Their mum Sue is an NHS mental health nurse and pop Hefin a plumber, they usually might never have been capable of afford it otherwise.

& "Until you get funding which, thankfully, my sister and I did, there would have been no probability," says Amber.

"However that is all I've ever recognized ever since I used to be a young woman. I didn't have a typical childhood. I wasn't going out enjoying with my pals – daily after faculty, I was doing ballet or musical theatre classes, so in my thoughts there was no other choice for me.

"Shifting to London at 16 appears wild now. However I knew what I needed in life, so it was a no-brainer. I had a intestine feeling that I used to be going to be OK. Being in this business is a marathon. It's eight exhibits every week and it's robust. But as a result of I'm educated, I've obtained that self-discipline and I will all the time give 110% to every thing I do."

After graduating in 2016, Amber gained Love Island a yr later, then her massive break got here in 2019 when she was forged as Judy Bernly in 9 To 5 The Musical, alongside Louise Redknapp, who she now counts as one among her closest associates.

Her roof-raising performances gained reward from the critics and put paid to any whispers of her being employed for her profile slightly than her talent.

"Individuals ask if it was strategic to do Love Island, nevertheless it truthfully wasn't. I was 20 and it was a bet because I wasn't getting some other job in musical theatre. It kick-started issues, however it was on me to work onerous and commit, and show those that I was critical about this."

Profitable the position of Vivian Ward in Pretty Lady: The Musical, the part made famous by Julia Roberts within the iconic 1991 film, is testament to how far she's come.

Amber was unsuccessful when she first auditioned for it five years ago and, at the time, was crushed.

Nevertheless, with hindsight she accepts it might have been too quickly.

"I used to be 22 and I do know now that I'd never have been capable of deal with it. It in all probability would have broken my confidence because it might have been too huge.

"I consider that the whole lot happens for a purpose, and I feel I was all the time meant to get the part in my late 20s. This is what I've been working for. Vivian is such an enormous duty. I don't depart the stage for 2 and a half hours, which pushes me as a vocalist, but I adore it a lot."

& As a seasoned stage performer, Amber is more than conscious of the good singalong debate that's been raging all yr, ever since unruly members of The Bodyguard: The Musical viewers have been requested to go away after becoming a member of in with I Will All the time Love You.

To sing or not to sing? "Completely not," says Amber.

"There are two varieties of individuals: theatre individuals and non-theatre individuals. The people who say they've paid X amount for a ticket and subsequently will sing once they need to, I can't relate to in any respect. There have been occasions once I've been on stage and I can hear individuals singing in the viewers and it's like: 'Please simply allow us to do our jobs'. It ruins the expertise for everyone. It's like a soccer fan operating on to the pitch in the midst of a match, saying: 'Let me take this shot!'"

Has she observed a decline within the etiquette of audiences?

Some London theatres are reportedly contemplating eradicating telephones because of persistent issues with individuals taking pictures and videos throughout performances.

"Truthfully, we see all of it," says Amber.

"Individuals filming on their telephones has been happening for years now. It comes right down to primary respect, doesn't it? Respect to the performers on that stage, to the backstage crew and the other individuals in the viewers.

"The silver lining is that the theatre group has come out preventing. We'll help each other until the cows come residence, and it has proven how much we really do have each other's backs."

Over the subsequent couple of months, Amber can be taking a short break from Pretty Lady to give attention to Dancing On Ice, however with the tour continuing by means of to the autumn, she has a busy 2024 forward. After that, does Broadway beckon?

"I'd like to get to Broadway, perhaps before I'm 30. I'd also like to do some tv. I did Virtually By no means [on CBBC] with Kimberly Wyatt and Aston Merrygold in lockdown and I'd love to offer that one other go."

She adds that her major objective is to in the future play Elphaba in Depraved and to carry out that ultimate present tune Defying Gravity.

"My mum has a photo of me once I was about five and I'd painted my face green. If that's not manifesting, then I don't know what is!" she says.

"It's an enormous half to play and I'm not there yet. Give me a couple extra roles and perhaps I'll be ready to take her on."& &
