Franzese's rise within the household was swift and coincided with that of different infamous mafia figures like John Gotti, Sammy 'The Bull' Gravano and Vincent 'Chin' Gigante in what was the Mafia's 'golden era'.

Asked what advice he has for anyone else making an attempt to return again from a dark place, he says: 'Don't hand over. Your previous is your previous, but in case you are determined to vary and rework yourself, put the correct individuals around, seek the correct advice and be decided to do it, you'll be able to.
'You'd be stunned how forgiving individuals may be once they see you're actually making an effort to do the proper thing.'
