BNSF Railway Company, a transportation firm, has been accused of not complying with Illinois' Biometric Information Privacy Act, per Top Class Actions.

It allegedly collected fingerprints of drivers illegally at gates across the state.

Truckers who used auto-gates between April 4, 2014 and March 5 2024 could be in line to receive a payment.

BNSF hasn't admitted wrongdoing but the lawsuit has since been settled.

Payments of up to $1,000 will be given to drivers.

Those who think they are eligible don't have to submit a claim, nor do they have to show proof of purchase.

This is unlike other settlements that ask claimants to provide evidence of their losses.

But truckers have to make sure their tax information is up-to-date.

They also have to provide their Social Security number.

Payments will be mailed to the last-known addresses of drivers.

Drivers have been warned the payments will be voided 120 days after they are issued, per the settlement.

It is expected checks will be issued around 60 days after the settlement has been approved in court.

Americans have been warned that if they do not share their tax details, then a proportion of the payment might be held back.

Drivers can exclude themselves from the payment meaning they will not receive compensation.

This can be done via sending a letter in the mail or email but the deadline is May 7.

Truckers can object to the settlement but the deadline is fast approaching as it also falls on May 7.

Meanwhile, The U.S. Sun reported how Ring resolved a lawsuit by agreeing on a settlement worth $5.6 million.

Americans impacted by a suspected data breach are in line to receive a payment worth up to $3,500.

Energy companies and pharmaceutical firms have also agreed to pay bumper settlements to resolve lawsuits.

Talen Energy Corp allegedly reduced pension benefits and is shelling out $20 million to resolve a lawsuit.

The company has not admitted any wrongdoing.
