A CUSTOMER has blasted Walmart over its new self-checkout policy.

They argued the newly implemented rule caused more problems for shoppers than solutions.

Some kiosks are blocked off for Walmart+ and Spark Drivers[/caption]

The criticism comes after select Walmart stores began sectioning off some of their self-checkout kiosks for Walmart+ subscribers and Spark Drivers earlier this year.

Many have claimed that the retail giant was effectively charging customers the $98 annual Walmart+ fee to use self-checkout moving forward.

Walmart has strongly denied this assertion, noting that managers at stores nationwide would determine how many kiosks are reserved for Walmart+ and Spark Drivers for the sake of efficiency and a positive shopping experience.

"We continually look at ways to provide our customers with the best shopping experience and that includes adjusting the checkout area in stores," spokesperson Josh Havens told Business Insider.

Some still claim the majority of their self-checkout area is now blocked off and aren't happy, including a frustrated shopper who claimed the policy decision causes "hassle" and "trauma."

"Walmart I have a huge bone to pick with you," a customer named Colleen wrote in a post to Facebook.

"You have removed the option to self checkout unless you are a Walmart member."

Colleen added that there were "rarely any lanes open" at her location.

"You expect people to pay a membership fee to do your job for you?" she asked.

"I have had enough!"

"I go there for minimal things now because it is a hassle every time I go to your store," the customer continued.

"It is nearly impossible to get out of there without severe anxiety."

Along with the negative review of the sectioned-off self-checkout policy, Colleen also claimed there were never enough cashiered registers to assist customers.

She isn't the only one to issue similar complaints in recent months.

KIOSK CHAOS

One person called out the brand for the supposed long lines the self-checkout policy change has caused as a result.

Similar to Colleen, they called the experience a "hassle."

"Checking out @Walmart is such a f***ing hassle now!" they exclaimed in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

"No human cashiers and the self-checkout line is ALWAYS long as f***! Who thought THIS was a good idea?!"

Walmart responded and apologized to the customer in this instance, seeking more information to prevent negative store trips.

Amid the complaints of long lines and other problems with self-checkout, Walmart decided to remove self-checkouts entirely at some locations.

In September last year, Walmart took out the kiosks at two Albuquerque, New Mexico locations.

So far this year, a location in Cleveland, Ohio, and St. Louis, Missouri, have removed theirs.

Walmart has said the decisions are made on a store-by-store basis after considering "feedback from customers and associates, shopping patterns, and business needs."
