One man found a historic coin from 1908 at his grandmother's home, and it could be worth up to $22,500.

The silvery coin was marked from 1808 and featured a woman in a cap on one side and an eagle on the other.
It was identified as an early half dollar coin.

One commenter weighed in with their thorough analysis of the coin.
They said that based on cracks in the design, it appeared to be an Overton 102A variety 1808 50 cent coin.
Also known as a "capped bust" coin for the depiction of Lady Liberty wearing a hat, this coin was among the earliest minted in the young United States.
The man found his grandmother's coin hidden inside a small package with handwriting on it.
The writing indicated that it was bought, apparently by his grandmother, in 1950 in Philadelphia for just $10.
$10 in 1950 was worth about $130 in 2024, according to inflation calculator Amortization.

Sure enough, high quality versions of the coin can sell for thousands.

Even low-grade coins of this type can sell for hundreds of dollars.
Other varieties of the 1808 half dollar can go for $67,000.
