It has provided more than its fair share of memorable moments since its launch in 1984, and fans should expect more of the same when the MTV Video Music Awards return on Wednesday evening. The show will take place at USB Arena in Elmont, New York City , a day later than scheduled after being pushed back to accommodate Kamala Harris and Donald Trump's Presidential debate. The 40th anniversary show will have an added poignancy as it falls on the 23rd anniversary of the World Trade Center catastrophe on September 11, 2001.
