TheNew York Giantsselected Rivers No. 4 overall in the 2004 NFL Draft but he was traded to the then-San Diego Chargers for quarterback Eli Manning. The trade happened because Manning refused to play for the Chargers if they drafted him.
Rivers spent two years behind starter Drew Brees before taking over in 2006. He spent the next 14 years under center for the Chargers, never missing a game. The franchise had the 10th-most wins in the league with him as their starter.
Rivers earned eight Pro Bowl honors with the Chargers during his long career and made the playoffs often.

Did Philip Rivers win a Super Bowl?
Rivers did not win a Super Bowl during his 17 years in the NFL. He made the playoffs seven times (six with the Chargers, one with the Colts) but never advanced beyond the AFC championship game.
His lone appearance in the AFC championship game came during the 2007 season. He played through a torn ACL in that contest and the Chargers lost 21-12 to the New England Patriots.
Of his seven playoff losses, three of them came against the Patriots and quarterback Tom Brady (2006, 2007, 2018). He fared better against another Hall of Famer, though. Rivers went 2-1 against Peyton Manning in the playoffs during his career.
