Cops are hopeful more people will be charged over the 17-year-old's killing in January 2020.

The roles ranged from the teen's abduction, his actual murder, the clean-up operation at the murder scene plus the dumping of body parts from Drogheda to Dublin and the removal of other evidence.

So far three people have been jailed over Keane's murder.

Gerard McKenna, 53, was caged for cleaning up the crime scene – his home in Rathmullen Park, Drogheda.

And Paul Crosby, 29, formerly of Rathmullen Park, and Gerard Cruise, 49, formerly of Lower Sherrard St, Dublin, both confessed to facilitating the murder.

McKenna has served his four-year sentence and is back on the streets living in Dublin.

Crosby, 29, is serving a ten-year term in Mountjoy while Cruise is being held in the maximum security Portlaoise Prison.

The main suspect in the murder, notorious Dublin hitman Robbie Lawlor, is dead.

But files on several other suspects, with Garda recommendations that they be charged, have been sitting with the Director of Public Prosecutions for over a year.

A Garda source said: "Obviously we would like to see more people being charged.

"There are a number of individuals who have blood on their hands who have not appeared before the courts.

"They all did different jobs no matter what they say and played an active part in Keane's death from cleaning up, disposing of body parts and getting rid of important evidence."

An Inquest into Keane's death has been adjourned indefinitely until all investigations are done.

The Garda source added: "We want to get justice for Keane and convict everyone connected to the murder.

"The files are with the DPP and it is up to them to decide whether more suspects can be charged or not.

"When this is all sorted an Inquest will eventually be held."

Keane's murder shocked the nation after he was murdered and his body dismembered.

Various parts were found in Coolock and Drumcondra, Dublin and on waste ground near the house where he was killed.

His mother Elizabeth told the trial that she is still haunted by the images of what happened to her young son and she could hear him calling her begging for help.
