THE dad of murder victim Nadine Lott has accused his girl's killer of inflicting more pain on the family.

But David Lott said they are also relieved after Daniel Murtagh withdrew his appeal against his conviction and sentence for Nadine's murder.

The mum, 30, was killed in front of her then six-year-old daughter Kya in a "sustained, barbaric and unprovoked monstrous" attack at her home in Arklow, Co Wicklow on December 13, 2019.

Murtagh, 37 first lodged his appeal in 2022. But he decided to drop the case just four days before it was due to get underway at the Court of Criminal Appeal last month.

Before his decision, the delusional killer – one of the most hated inmates in the prison system – had spent the last number of months telling inmates at Cork Prison of his hopes for an early release.

But his boasts proved futile after he withdrew his application due to the overwhelming evidence against him at his original trial in 2021.

Since his conviction, the coward has never shown any remorse for killing his ex-partner.

A jail source said: "When he started this process everyone in the prison told him he had no chance.

"But he still persisted and everyone thinks this is because he wanted to cause more pain to her family.

"When it came to it, he suddenly realised he hadn't a hope of winning this appeal."

Nadine's dad spoke of their ordeal over Murtagh's appeal.

<!-- End of Brightcove Player -->

David told us: "This appeal was a true reflection on the perpetrator who committed this horrific crime against our beloved Nadine.

"He lodged this appeal over two years ago and it just inflicted more trauma, pain and grief.

"We are relieved we don't have to relive the pain and suffering of Nadine.

"The withdrawal also copper-fastens the murder conviction reached by the jury at the original trial."

David also told how he believes the minimum tariffs should have been introduced in Ireland much sooner, adding: "There is a frustration that minimum tariffs haven't yet been imposed in Ireland.

"It is the family and friends of our loved ones who are left with a life sentence.

"Whole life sentences are appropriate when extreme levels of violence are used as was in the case of Nadine's."

Last month, the best pal of murdered Nadine branded the young mum's depraved killer Daniel Murtagh "pure evil."

Karen Forde made the claim as Murtagh withdrew his appeal against the conviction for Nadine's murder.

Speaking for the first time about the horrific incident, Karen said: "The sentence that he will serve will never be enough for my best friend.

"Nadine was only 30 years old with her whole life ahead of her, yet the maximum sentence of taking someone's life in this country isn't even 30 years.

"The sentence he will serve is a minute compared to the lifetime of loss we bear.

"No justice can ever bring Nadine back, but accountability is a must. As Nadine's friends, our lives will never be the same after his horrendous evil act.

"The trauma and suffering he inflicted on all of Nadine's family and friends far outweighs any punishment he will ever receive."
